Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Steppet respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how your information is handled when you use the App.

2. Data We Collect

Steppet is a local-first app, meaning most data stays on your device. We may collect:

  • Name entered during onboarding
  • Step count data generated by device sensors or system APIs
  • Pet progression data based on your activity
  • App settings and preferences
  • Location and route data when you enable GPS tracking, including GPS coordinates, timestamps, distance, pace, accuracy, speed, and route history

3. How Data Is Stored

All personal data used for core functionality is stored locally on your device. This includes your name, step history, pet progress, app settings, and saved route history.

Steppet does not require cloud storage or remote servers for core functionality.

4. Data Usage

Your data is used only to:

  • Display your name in the App
  • Track your steps
  • Evolve and update your virtual pet
  • Record and display walking routes when GPS tracking is enabled
  • Calculate GPS-based distance and pace
  • Show route history, map views, and route stickers
  • Improve user experience locally on your device

We do not sell your personal data.

5. Location, GPS, and Maps

Steppet may ask for location permission when you choose to use GPS-based route features, such as recording a walk, showing your route on a map, calculating outdoor distance and pace, viewing route history, or creating route stickers.

GPS tracking is used only for these app features. You can disable location access at any time through your device settings.

6. Data Sharing

Steppet does not sell your personal data. We do not share your locally stored app data with third parties, except:

  • If required by law
  • If you explicitly enable a feature that involves external services
  • When map services are needed to display maps or provide map-related functionality

7. Third-Party Services

Steppet uses Mapbox to display maps and support map-related features. Mapbox may process map usage and location-related telemetry as part of providing its services. Mapbox states that its mobile SDK telemetry is de-identified and aggregated to improve maps and related services.

Steppet does not currently use third-party advertising SDKs.

8. Data Security

Since most data is stored locally, its security depends on your device's security settings, such as screen lock and encryption. We recommend keeping your device secure.

9. Children's Privacy

Steppet does not knowingly collect personal data from children without guardian consent.

10. Your Control Over Data

Because your core app data is stored locally, you can:

  • Disable location access through your device settings
  • Delete app data by uninstalling the App
  • Reset progress inside the App, if the feature is provided

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the App means you accept the updated policy.
